This piece comes from my exploration of the area surrounding the CPR rail corridor that runs through central Toronto, reflecting on the historical concept of “the wrong side of the tracks”. I remember this idea from my childhood, and that there were “good” areas and “bad” areas. Caution was needed in bad areas and you needed to be wary of people from bad areas. You were happy to be from a “good” area instead from the wrong side of the tracks.
This is what I think of as a teaser, all from on or near Geary Street in September of 2025. The finished piece to be exhibited may or may not contain some of these images.
Eliza Moore is a documentary and art photographer based in Toronto. Her work in urban design, architecture and project management creates the context for careful observation and documentation of development and conservation in the city, and the infrastructure behind it. Current works in progress are set in the Dupont-Davenport corridor, the Toronto waterfront and around the Great Lakes. For Contact 2027, Moore explores the area on either side of the CPR railway corridor in west-end Toronto. Moore’s work has been shown at Gallery 44 and the Rectory Gallery on Toronto Island, and in group shows in Toronto and Montreal.
